Chrome Plating

Chrome Plating

Chrome plating is the heart of our business. We have 4 tanks
ranging in size from 2' deep to 12' deep, all running 24 hours a day. Our chrome is tested & analyzed twice a month to insure the highest quality. Transvalent & clairides are always kept at a bare minimum
(copies of our reports & charts available upon request).
When you need to get a freezer barrel chrome plated, the nickel tube needs to be activated, otherwise the chrome will not "stick". Ask your current rebuild shop how they activate the nickel before plating. They will answer "SANDBLASTING".  Why is this bad?

1: Chrome repeats it base surface. If you have a sand blasted finish before chrome, you will have a sandblasted finish after chrome. Even if you polish & hone it, it will look smooth.

2: When sandblasting, you have to hone (stock removal) afterward. If you want .010 of chrome, you need to apply .020 and hone clean. Destroys your final finish, and takes up downtime.

3: The smoother & finer your finish, the longer your tube will last. A sandblasted finish will erode your blades and chip your chrome.

When we chrome plate a barrel, it's honed then fully polished to a mirror finish. When we're activating the base material with electric current and powder based agents. This process was taken directly from the aerospace industry. If you'd like more information on our technique, please feel free to call us and we'll explain the entire process in detail.

Want proof? Ever notice how a NEW from factory barrel will out last
a rebuilt barrel? New tubes are not sandblasted. Most rebuilds are.
